Storm Damage Repair in Nicoma Park

Hail and wind leave damage you can't always spot. We climb up, track down every broken shingle, cracked vent and loose piece of flashing, and photograph it. Then we tell you straight whether a repair will last or the roof is past fixing, and which material suits the job.

What Storm Damage Repair Covers

You often can't see storm damage standing in the driveway. A hailstone can crack the fiberglass mat inside a shingle and leave nothing more than a soft, dark mark. Strong wind can tear a shingle loose from its adhesive strip, so it flaps in later wind and settles back down looking normal. Either one lets water in, sometimes months down the road.

We find that damage, record it and fix it with the right material. Each roof type breaks its own way. Older 3-tab shingles tear easily and shed granules quickly. Architectural shingles are tougher but still bruise. Metal panels dent and their fasteners can work loose. Your repair is built around the roof that's actually on your home.

When most of the slopes are damaged, we'll tell you. Sometimes a roof replacement is the honest call, and we'd rather say so than patch a roof that's worn through.

What the Work Includes

Every slope checked
Damage doesn't stay on the side the storm came from, so we go over the whole roof. That means shingles, ridge caps, vents, pipe boots and flashing.
Dated photos
We photograph each spot we find. You can see the problem for yourself, and the pictures help if you go through insurance.
Matching your shingles
Manufacturers drop colors and styles over time. We hunt down the closest match available and let you know ahead of time if it won't blend perfectly.
Flashing and vents
High wind pries flashing away from walls and chimneys, and hail splits plastic vent covers. We reseal or replace them to keep water out.
Gutters looked over
Hail dings gutters and wind can tear them loose from the fascia. We point out any damage, and our gutters service can handle the fix.
Cleanup
Torn-off shingles, nails and scraps go in the trailer and leave with us. Before we pack up, a magnet roller goes over the lawn and drive to pick up stray nails.

Signs Your Roof Took Storm Damage

  • Grit at the downspouts

Sandy granules piling up after a hailstorm mean your shingles lost part of their coating. Those bare patches break down quickly in the sun.

  • Shingles gone or creased

Shingles lying in the yard are hard to miss. A fold line across one still on the roof means wind bent it back and broke its seal.

  • Dings on metal

Look at your gutters, AC unit, mailbox and roof vents. Dents there mean the shingles got hit as well.

  • Fresh ceiling stains

A water mark that appears days or weeks after bad weather usually traces back to a cracked shingle or loose flashing overhead.

  • Branches on or near the roof

A limb that hit and slid off can still crack shingles or break through the decking. Have it checked.

What Moves the Cost of Storm Repairs

No two storms leave the same marks, which is why we price the job only after we've been on the roof. Three things drive the number: how much got damaged, what your roof is made of and how the wood underneath held up. You get it all in writing before any work begins.

Size of the damaged area

Replacing a handful of shingles on one side is quick work. When hail marked up every slope, the job needs far more material and labor.

What your roof is made of

Standard 3-tab shingles are the least costly to replace. Architectural and impact-rated shingles run higher, and metal panels with custom trim run higher still. Matching an older metal profile can add time.

The decking underneath

Plywood that got wet and went soft has to come out. We can't see it until the broken shingles are off, so we show you any bad sheets before we swap them.

Pitch and height

A steep roof or a two-story home means more safety setup and slower going, and that raises labor.

How a Storm Repair Job Goes

  1. 1

Your call and a visit time

We ask what you noticed and when the storm came through, then pick a day to come out. If water is getting inside, we can tarp the area to hold until the repair.

  2. 2

    Up on the roof

We go over the roof, mark each damaged spot and photograph it. Back on the ground, we walk you through the pictures and which material fits the repair.

  3. 3

    Estimate on paper

Your estimate breaks out materials and labor line by line. For insurance jobs, we show how our findings compare to the adjuster's report, but the claim decisions stay with them.

  4. 4

    The repair

We cover plants and beds, strip the damaged sections, check the decking and lay new underlayment with new shingles or panels. Most storm repairs are done in a single day.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough and cleanup

Once the site is clean, we show you the finished roof and give you after photos to keep.

Storm Damage Repair Questions

Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?

Lots of people have us out before they file, just to learn whether the damage is real. Either way, you walk away with our photos and notes to give your insurer. We'll explain how a claim usually goes, but coverage is the adjuster's decision.

Will the new shingles match the old ones?

Most of the time we get very close. When a shingle line has been discontinued, we track down the nearest color and profile and let you see a sample first. If a good match isn't possible on a slope people see from the street, we'll be upfront about it.

Are impact-resistant shingles a good idea?

They handle hail better than standard shingles, though no shingle is hail-proof, and they cost more. Some insurers lower premiums for them, so ask your agent. If you're fixing a big section or replacing the whole roof, we'll lay out the pros and cons.

How quickly should the roof be looked at after a storm?

The sooner the better. A small crack lets in a little water each rain, and the rot spreads. Many policies also set deadlines for filing, so check yours.

Nothing looks wrong from the ground. Could there still be damage?

It's possible. Bruised shingles and broken seals almost never show from the yard. Getting someone on the roof for a roof inspection is the only sure way to tell.
